A new lump in the breast or armpit, changes in the skin or nipple, or unusual discharge should be assessed by a clinician, even after a recent normal mammogram. A red, swollen, warm breast that does not improve after about a week of treatment or worsens should be reassessed. These signs can also have other causes.
How assessment works
Depending on the case, the doctor may recommend a clinical examination, imaging and a biopsy. The pathology report and biomarkers help guide treatment choices.
