A persistent cough, blood in sputum, breathlessness or chest pain warrants medical assessment. Blood in sputum should be assessed promptly.
How assessment works
Doctors may use CT imaging and a tissue sample. Depending on the type and stage, biomarker tests on the tumour tissue, which help guide treatment, and staging tests such as PET-CT or brain MRI may be needed.
